StartMiUp & Qualify Mi - Das Qualifizierungsprogramm
In the introductory phase, the courses are available in the public area of the Philipps-Universität Marburg's learning platform Ilias. The goal is to make the courses available in the learning platforms of all three universities in Central Hesse. Be aware, currently, all courses are available in german only.
Congratulations! As a founder, you are a person who breaks new ground. This requires a lot of courage, which we would like to support. Our qualification program is designed to assist you in this.
We focus on soft skills and expert knowledge:
- What skills do you bring with you as a founder?
- How do you come up with good, marketable ideas for a spin-off?
- What previous knowledge do you have? Or do you just want to refresh your knowledge?
Our qualification program addresses every phase of the start-up cycle.
"StartMiUp & QualifyMi!" Our qualification program as a key qualification for students (Bachelor) of JLU, THM and UMR.
Students (Bachelor) of JLU, THM and UMR can take the module as a key qualification starting in the winter semester.
This semester we offer 2 courses, one at JLU and one at UMR. Places are reserved for THM students in both courses. Each participant who has successfully completed the course will receive a certificate. You can find out more about the possibilities of having the module recognized as a course credit here:
With our qualification program StartMiUp & QualifyMi! for people interested in founding a company, you learn how to approach a start-up project.
The module has a hybrid structure:
- We start with a two and a half day ideation workshop. Here you learn to fill a start-up idea with life using design thinking. In a team, this idea will be transformed into a viable business model by the end of the semester and presented in a pitch event at the end of the semester. Attendance at these face-to-face events is mandatory, they cannot be suspended.
- During the semester, you will be supported by our online teaching material: a total of 16 individual lessons must be completed, 12 of which are compulsory. You will receive the tools that every founder needs to know. The list of compulsory lessons can be found below.
- From the other elective lessons you can choose 4 more, which correspond to your business or your inclinations: If you are aiming at an internet-based business, you should of course choose e-commerce, if you are more at home in social entrepreneurship, choose this lesson. Here you can develop freely and of course, if you are interested, you can go through more than 4 lessons.
- During the whole process the ECM and MAFEX team will support you with office hours :-)
- At the end of the semester you have to write a portfolio (max. 12 pages) with a four-page idea sketch and present your project in a pitch.
Dates:
- Ideation workshop in Marburg: Nov. 6-8, 2023 approx. 10 a.m.-4 p.m., on Nov. 8 approx. 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
- Ideation workshop in Giessen: Nov. 8, 2023 approx. 2-6 p.m., Nov. 9, 2023 approx. 10 a.m. -5 p.m, Nov 10, 2023 approx. 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
- Pitch presentation: to be announced, during the lecture-free period Feb. or March 2024.
Exact times and venue to be announced.

Information for UMR Students
StartMiUp & Qualify Mi! starts as a MarSkills module in all new Bachelor's programs from the winter semester 2024/25 and is recommended from the 3rd semester. But also in the current winter semester you can already start: we offer the module from the department 02 Economics, but in most cases it will also be possible to get 6 LP recognized for your study program (Bachelor). You can register in MARVIN for the LV- 02-021-267, if the registration does not work out, because your study programs are not compatible, please follow the instructions below for the extraordinary recognition 😊.
Information for students of the THM
For organizational reasons, it is currently not yet possible to offer a separate course at the THM. Therefore, places in the courses at JLU and UMR are reserved exclusively for THM students. However, we are pleased that students from our universities come together in this way, as our project StartMiUp - Startupnetzwerk Mittelhessen promotes the merger. The module can be credited according to the normal crediting process according to § 14 of the General Regulations upon application. Astrid Bendix from our Quali-Team is available for questions and registration. Please send an email with your name, contact details (please use the THM email address), course of studies, matriculation number and your preference whether you prefer to attend the course in Giessen or in Marburg (allocation not guaranteed!).
Option of extraordinary recognition
Numerous examination regulations also allow for the possibility of submitting academic achievements via an extraordinary recognition procedure. For this purpose, you have to contact the dean of studies or the examination office of your department/program to find out whether it is possible to bring in key qualifications. Astrid Bendix from the UMR will help you: please send an email to her with your contact details (please use the email address of your university), your study program (please do not use abbreviations) AND your matriculation number.
